Adding something resembling Twisted to the standard library, to displace asyncore will be immensely useful. The asyncore standard library module is one of the more painful warts in the python stdlib. But, since it's been in python since at least 2.4, it's really handy and when you iron out the oddities, asyncore is amazing. Having a twisted-like asynchronous framework (that doesn't suck) will be a godsend.
