The Java designers removed the stuff that is useful in C++, while failing completely to clean up the actual problems like primitive types or Tony Hoare's billion dollar mistake and introducing boneheaded mistakes like the conversion from Derived to Base. Calling Java a cleaned-up version of C++ is simply ridiculous.
