Hi,
I will like to share this news with you:
-----
Linux now in Indian languages
"Linux For You, Asia's first Linux magazine, has launched a multilingual
version of Linux from India For You (LiFY). It now supports all major
Indian languages including Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Gurmukhi,
Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu. It is totally free for any personal and
business use. It is developed at LFY Labs, New Delhi.
Speaking on the launch, Mr. Rahul Chopra, Editor, Linux For You said: "The
support of all major Indian languages in LiFY will make it a universal
choice for all Indians, all across the country. Till now, the basic
language for computing was English. Now Indians will be able to user their
own languages in computers using LiFY."
The biggest challenge in Linux implementation is to localize it for easy
adoption. LiFY is an attempt to provide avenues for easy adoption of
Linux. It has expanded the utility of Linux for the Indian computing
platform. A CD-ROM containing a complete version of multilingual LiFY has
been distributed alongwith Linux For You's July edition, making it the
largest circulated multilingual operating system.
LiFY is intuitively designed with a Windows XP like interface (XP Desktop
Environment). All applications are based on Open Source, which means that
they can be used totally royalty free for various business and personal
applications. The source code of the applications is also available for
free for modification and re-use by programmers. LiFY has also been
integrated with applications devised by Indian programmers. The operating
system does not need any installation and can run directly from CD-ROM.
