At the price of slower suspend/resume and (slightly) increased power consumption. Also, it will speed things up "eventually", but will do nothing for you if you just turn on your computer for some quick lookups and turn it off again.

If cheap flash cards are weak at writting but great at seeking and reading, why not use them for small sparingly written files?. I think /usr and /etc would be good candidates.
