KDE 3.5 - November 2005
So after 5 years KDE4 almost does everything KDE3 did? Impressive.
BTW I like Qt4 very much, but somehow I cannot tell the same about KDE4. I also cannot forget 4.0 as it was released (IMO huge mistake), because it was just not ready for daily use (it was not even of RC quality, maybe early beta mark was appropriate) and definitely not ready to replace 3.5. Real 4.0 should be at least 4.2 (January 2009) or rather 4.3 (August 2009).
Sure, KDE4 is nowadays in many ways better than KDE3 was, no doubt. But rewrites/reworks/substantial "upgrades" stripping many features and functions, reimplementing them (if at all) much later, is not what anyone should be proud of.

When will the current KDE developers fix the bugs and re-add the features lost in the KDE 4 way? Do it instead of wasting more time trying to fix some of the odd 'features' which have been added in KDE 4.x and that everybody agree are not of any use. Where are the KDE 3.5 developers? Are all gone? KDE 4 was a mess and it is a mess yet. Use instead the Trinity KDE 3.5 maintenance version if you want.

have never used KDE after tried KDE4 shortly.
Ubuntu is moving to Qt, we will see. For now I'm a happy Gnome user, while Honeycomb looks very promising on the horizon too.

Did I mention that most of the KDE 4 bugs I see these days are actually dbus bugs? That's a freedesktop.org project more closely associated with Gnome and KDE. [conspiracy theory goes here]
In any case, both KDE 3.5 and kde 4.5 accomplish the same thing: let me get my work done without getting in my face, and give me the customization options I want. With the exception of scrolling away the task bar. Short wish list, what?
The fact that KDE 4.5 supports nearly all the functionality of 3.5 is intended as a compliment because KDE 3.5 is awesome. I look forward to the moment when I get my scrollable task bar back in which case from my point of view KDE 4.x will meet or beat KDE 3.5 in every way, not just most ways.

Yes, it does seem that a surprising number of people love to rehash the 4.0 release so much that they cannot enjoy what KDE4 has become.
