This is now fixed in 2.6.38-rc2 kernel, and the corresponding 2.6.38-1-generic kernel in Ubuntu.

The bug was caused by the autogroup patch, which the development version of Ubuntu (11.04) applied on top of 2.6.37 for testing/experimental purposes. That's why Ubuntu got it before anyone else did.
