Everyone knows Itanic failed, but few people understand why it failed - even if it's totally obvious. Somehow people believe it failed because you needed to recompile everything to use it. Well, newsflash: AMD64 requires that too! Itanic failed because it was more expensive in 32bit mode then AMD64-based CPUs. This is exactly what will happen with crazy DJBs idea to embed IPv4 in IPv6: routers which will reject this idea will be cheaper in pure IPv4 mode and so will be used, while "brlliant ones" with "transparent IPv6 support" will be left to die like Itanic.
