LCA moves to a new venue

The venue for linux.conf.au, starting January 24 in Brisbane, has been moved to the Kelvin Grove campus of the Queensland University of Technology - a shift of about 4km. The current recommendation seems to be that attendees should keep their current hotel reservations and use the bus service to get to the venue. "We do ask you to be patient as we work through all the logistics - but the conference will go ahead and no miniconfs or conference streams will be canceled." One only hopes that the organizers have planned a big party after the event; they will certainly have earned it.

Kelvin Grove is very close to the city, well served by buses, and a nice campus. I'd advise anyone that's staying in a hotel in the city to stay where they're booked and catch public transport or carpool.

There's a new shopping area just next to the campus (http://goo.gl/8INi9) with what look like loads of good restaurants with great reviews and reasonable prices. Also, close by you have Red Hill, Paddington, Newmarket and Windsor all teeming with places to eat and drink - as well as the city. They'll still be a bus or car ride away, but that can't be changed by changing hotels anyway.

Hope this helps,

Paul

...or a bicycle ride away. My bicycle is flying with me to Brisbane.

Bummed that I won't be able to attend LCA this year (for flood un-related reasons) but the fact that the organizers are on top of this and soldiering on is no surprise. LCA has consistently been one of the best confs around, and I hope the attendees show lots of appreciation for how far above and beyond the organizers are now going. If it weren't for the rather pricey plane ticket, I'd never miss an LCA...

Man, I think you've left your run a little late but http://sendzonkertolca.org is still available... ;-)

Have fun,

Please note that Pia Waugh has put up a page for people who are attending LCA who wish to assist in some way with the flood relief there:

http://conf.linux.org.au/wiki/Floods

They would like volunteers to sign up on that wiki page - currently there are only 5 people listed. :-(

Sadly I'm not going to be at LCA, otherwise my name would be there..
