Sony is fighting and clawing its way to... wherever. But you're right, when bypassing restrictions goes viral (as this jailbreaking hack has done), it's going to be a real fight.

I wonder if Sony is still doing damage control from the rootkit music CD debacle of 2005 (PDF)...?

I know I've not purchased a Sony DVD player and camera (that I likely would have otherwise) because of the rootkit^W DRM episode.

I haven't bought anything from Sony since the rootkit episode. I also convinced my friend not to buy a Sony TV.

I was thinking lately whether to end my self-imposed boycott of Sony, but apparently Sony wants me to continue.

The rootkit episode didn't cause me to boycot Sony, because it looked only like another example of Dilbertian corporate stupidity, but going after the PS3 jailbreakers with lawyers is evil. No more Sony products for me, or my family members.

Likewise for me. No Sony products since the root kit incident. No Sony Ericson phones. No Blue Ray. No laptops for corporate purchases. No playstation either for the kids.
