RMS is important.
If he hadn't written the GPL, and been a zealot about it, and Linus hadn't applied it to the Linux kernel, no piece of the technology world would look the way it does today; I firmly believe this.
That said, this approach is a real pain in the ass for those of us who *do* have to live in the Real World, and I certainly won't be adopting it.
We need zealots. These "monomaniac with a mission", as Tom Peters described them 30 years ago, are the people who get things accomplished; who change the world.
But their right to swing their fist stops *just* short of my nose. :-)
