Remove the Microsoft software that's causing the problem and replace it with properly functioning open source software. Problem solved. As an extra bonus, interoperability with Macs is improved too. Microsoft decided to drop Appletalk support from Windows XP, but Linux still has Netatalk. More and more Microsoft isn't the solution, it's the problem. I don't have high expectations that their new lab will figure that out.
