As long as people don't go and use the output to blindly "fix" code.

I think that this was mainly the fault of the code: using unitialised variable without meaningful variable names and pragma to avoid valgrind complaining?
A desaster waiting to happen.. Not fair to blame only the maintainers even though Debian should really use a 'fix upstream before' policy also.
