I apologise for following up on my own post, but I just located a more recent news article that confirms that Mad Hatter is, in fact, GNU/Linux: Sun's Linux: Not dead after all from ARNet. With "60 PC makers, including Dell and Sony, lined up for Mad Hatter", this is great news for getting GNU/Linux out there on corporate desktop PCs.
