I wish you could post names of all people in the picture.
Names

I've done it the last couple of years, it will probably happen this time around too. I just want to get the reports out first - and, probably, survive my talk tomorrow morning and the Wednesday evening publication cycle. That's why I said it would be a couple of days.
Everyone, fill in the names

Jon, here is an imagemap you can use. The names aren't filled in, but if they were, people could figure out who someone is by hovering over the face.
Help me out, folks: Fill in the blanks. I filled in a few semi-obvious ones, but I'm horrible at matching names / faces.
Everyone, fill in the names

Great work! I've added a few that were missing.
OBVIOUSLY linux isn't derived from Unix...

...after all, only two of those guys have the big bushy beard.
This should be saved as evidence for IBM in court.

Where the heck is ac? Did he trim his big, bushy programmer's beard, or wasn't he able to make it?

I think ac said he wasnt going, so if you want to test the most bleeding edge 2.6, get an -ac version...

It is a shame he didn't go. The way to keep everybody on the "same page" in development is to talk face to face with your peers [fellow developers] on occasion but it seems Alan has been slowing down in his over-all involvement in linux kernel development for the last 3 years and this is just another hint that this is the case.

Left to right Front row (on floor): David Woodhouse, ? , Linus, Andrew Morton, ?, maybe Vojtech Pavlik, ?, ? Second row (kneeling): ?, ?, ?, Ted T'so, Anton Blanchard, ?, ? Third row (seated): ?, ?, ?, Suparna Bhattacharya, ?, Paul Mackerras, ?, Greg Kroah-Hartman, ?, ? Fourth row (standing): ?, ?, ?, Matthew Wilcox, Maddog, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?
After that, I'm a bit lost. Back row: ?, Rusty Russell, ?, ?, Dave Jones, ?, ?, ? The guy to the front right of Rusty is Lars Markosky-Bree (sp?) The guy about five people to right of maddog (wearing glasses and a white teeshirt) is Jeff Dike.
Any more? Can anyone make sense of the mess in the middle? Maybe a diagram?

Thanks for those - I've entered them in (except Vojtech since it sounds like you aren't sure).

No problem - it's fun to pretend to be a web application writer once in awhile. (php + perl source available on request - my mailto is on the page - but be warned, its ugliness absolutely defies description and is perhaps only exceeded by its fragility.) I'm just surprised the names got filled in as fast as they did. As of now we still don't know who is
behind rml,
the two people behind him,
behind Niibe Yutaka,
in front of Greg K-H, and
behind Hugh Dickins.
But 69 of 75 faces have been identified in half a day of LWN readers pointing and clicking. Not bad - thanks one and all. Special thanks to someone from Ottawa via sympatico.ca (on site at OLS?) who filled in over 30 names.

The guy in the second row, second in from the left looks an awful lot like Olaf Kirch.
And although it's been a long time since I've seen Christoph Helwig, I believe he may be the guy in the second to the last row, three guys in from the right. I could be mistaken.

Okay, I think I'm wrong about the Christoph guess. I'm sticking with Olaf in the second row, though (it's him or his evil twin, I'm convinced of it).

Okay. Gender preference aside, who's the sexiest kernel hacker? I think Linus ranks pretty high as the spokes-model of the group. Other votes? Opinions?

Gender preference aside,
I'm not liberal enough to put gender preferences aside so easily...
who's the sexiest kernel hacker?
Well ... by process of elimination, if nothing else, I guess it would be Suparna. (:

Funny - I showed the picture to my wife last night and she said James Bottomley looked like a movie star. (Not so strange -- she is married to me, afterall!)

Sexiest hacker?
No doubt, the one, the only.....
Bartlomiej Zolnierkiewicz
The name alone is worth several points because I'm completely unable to pronounce it.
Rusty Russell also deserves mentioning, he's by far the most fun hacker in attendence - [Austin Powers] and he's one sexy beast [/Austin Powers]

How long before the press release from SCO claiming that some of those people are SCO employees that IBM kidnapped and sneaked into the photo?
No women?
