I am not sure if this is the desired feature, but videos at sites like http://videolectures.net/ have 2 panes-- one with the video, and one with a separate set of slides whose transitions are synchronized with the lecture. For many (most?) lectures, reading (or even seeing) the slides in the video is not possible.

Well if Trelane was talking about web-player support for actual PPT files, then that would be outside of the scope of a video processing system like Matterhorn -- it would be something for the CMS, ie Moodle or Sakai. Moodle, I know, does support embedding Powerpoint and several other presentation formats as course material; Sakai I'm not sure about.
On the other hand, Matterhorn does explicitly support capturing presentation contents for synchronous use in the two-pane video player; that's the entire purpose of the two-pane player shown in the screenshot, and it's part of the recommended hardware configuration. That recommended setup has the added advantage of being compatible with any overhead projector content, including live desktop demonstrations, which importing PPT into an HTML or Flash player does not.
