Just a thought, I may be completely wrong but what a about embedded processors which aren't as complicated as modern "big" CPUs ?

Not sure what is a simple embedded chip these days. ARM and low power Intel chips look as complicated as their big brothers in handling memory vs power issues. I would guess that other processors may do the same.
