Anglophone cultural assumptions about "caveman speak"; the "generic caveman name" in English tends to be either "Ug" (using the English "short u", not the Latin u) or "Og" depending on the speaker's preference. Probably influenced by popular perception of the character of vocalizations produced by other kinds of apes.

Interestingly, I've just found out there's a dedicated article in Wikipedia about this name. I still wonder why would gkh pick it, though.
