Larry Wall's State of the Onion 7 talk from OSCON 2003 is now
online. "Since this is a State of the Union speech, or State of
the Onion, in the particular case of Perl, I'm supposed to tell you what
Perl's current state is. But I already told you that the current state of
Perl is just fine. Or at least as fine as it ever was. Maybe a little
better."

Anything else of importance? I find it incredible that such an ugly and error prone crossover between intercal and teco has gone so far.

But he did make the point, right at the start, that he didn't have much of a point to make. He said, flat out: first, the State of Perl is great; second, he will spend the rest of the time making jokes. If you read that and then expected the rest of the presentation to be full of ponderous, important points, then afterwards felt you wasted your time by reading through (or sitting through) the whole thing ... well, you can't say you weren't warned. (: Me, I still think it was the most entertaining presentation I've read in a very long time. (Then again, working as I do at what seems to be a factory for the most boring carbon copy PowerPoint crap in the world, I suppose it doesn't take too much to entertain me.)
