Great, was waiting for an article on this.

But I think EurekaStreams a bit of a giant, I looked into it, and many of the pages are lettered with «coming soon», «nothing here yet». In the end, I found out that it was all Java, and quickly lost interest in it. I've tried making java projects run before, it is not a pleasant experience.

Also, not being federated in this day and age is a loosing battle. I can not find one single reason to go with EurekaStreams rather than an internal StatusNet. StatusNet is just a safer future-bet.

And, I'm rather sure Diaspora won't want to go look at EurekaStreams when they've used so much time on Diaspora, and also, one of the big selling points of Diaspora (and GNU Social (plugins for StatusNet)) is actually the federation and that you can run-your-own-service but still being able to have «friends» (or maybe contacts) on other services.
