Parent article: Here's how Linux gets to the desktop (ZDNet)

Well, I was alway skeptical about Linux on the desktop of average user, but I think I have converted recently.

Now, I am a technical user and have always used UNIX/Linux on my desktop, but always it has entailed hours of research work getting stuff working, which I thought a non-technical user could never do.

But recently I have seen good progress in this area. E.g. I recently bought a LinuxCertified Laptop, primarily because I didn't want to scratch my head again with all the hardware. I was *really* surprised to see stuff working off the bat. It was almost like buying Windows machine from Dell.

I think Linux on the desktop will rise based on the advances made by the community, and the integration work done by vendors like these.
