I would call the libappindicator work..the most obvious example of deliberate technology divergence from Gnome upstream in a an important framework technology standpoint.
I would also call Shuttleworth's attempt to paint Gnome-shell as not a netbook appropriate user interface to prop up Canonical's choice to work on Unity outside of the GNOME project as actively hostile to GNOME as a project and its roadmap. I've yet to see an active GNOME contributor or a GNOME Foundation board member state that GNOME Shell is not meant nor recommended for netbooks. Shuttleworth is actively undermining the general perception of GNOME Shell's utility to get people interested in Unity. Not the most friendly of actions...and absolutely misleading...deliberately so.
