So the Gnash team is broke, and has been for most of a year. This
has forced many, but not all of the Gnash developers to find paying
work, and mostly stop working on Gnash. The few of us left focused
on Gnash like to eat and pay bills.

It surely is good to see all these FSF supporters being ready to put their money where their mouthes are when it comes to gnash.

FSF itself doesn't.

Hopefully, companies with a financial interest in a free software .swf player will contribute to Gnash.
For other issues, like fighting DRM and software patents, history shows that FSF can't rely on (or even hope for) companies to fund enough of the necessary work. So FSF focusses its limited resources on this latter set of problems.
Hundreds of companies are spending millions on free software development, so adding another drop to that ocean isn't the best use of FSF's tight resources.
There are a lot of companies with much larger resources than FSF, profiting or that would profit from a free software .swf player. *They* should fund Gnash (rather than sitting on their hands and waiting for FSF to pick up the bill).
