But a font is not pure art. It is largely a technical object (see all the text rendering bugs for poor fonts)

And the font creators that howl as soon as one proposes an open font creation process are the first to use trainees to complete their font behind the scenes (complete meaning adding the hundreds of glyphs needed for an i18n font once the glamourous ascii design part is done)

I'm not sure what you're trying to communicate there, nicooo. If you're disagreeing with my preceding comment, then you're saying a leaderless "crowdsourced" painting or sculpture would look _good_, and I'm neither convinced that's true nor do I think anyone has asserted something to that effect.
