Parent article: A quick grumpy review of Shotwell

Sigh! Why is it so hard for developers to replicate the wonderful simplicity and flexibility that John Bradley got so right with xv? All the newer systems I've seen and played with seem to concentrate on being flashy and sophisticated - I just want to work with my images.

ImageMagick's display(1) has a basic user interface that's about as simple and uncluttered as you can find. (If anything, a bit *too* uncluttered.)

The photo management tool I use the most is qiv. Specifically 'qiv -t *.jpg' and type 'd' to delete. :(

One day I will find another tool that is as fast and trouble free as qiv. I was hoping that Shotwell would not follow in F-Spot's footsteps quite so closely but ah well.
