You're not alone in wanting something like that. I've written a hokey set of shell-scripts for adding tags to images, storing them in the EXIF data. Right now I have EXIF comments which look like "Tag:colour Tag:outdoors Tag:people Tag:people-me" which isn't ideal, but is simple to parse, update, and remove. I keep thinking I should write a tool to make this a GUI process, storing tag information both in an image and in an SQLite database for speed. But I never quite get round to it. If somebody else would that would be ideal.
