Look. We all like Apple's shiny crap (I'm writing this on a Macbook Pro), and we love to listen to Uncle Steve, but at the end of the day, many of their practices are quite reprehensible to our community. The best way to tell Apple how you feel is to not buy an iPhone. I made the iPhone mistake several times myself (actually, three times...) but I have well and truly learned my lesson now. Yes, it's *very* shiny, yes it's *very* polished, and Android just isn't quite the same. But there are alternatives and we must exercise restraint before giving Apple any more support for their app store.

We only have to wait just long enough for a Federal anti-trust suit to be brought, which really can't be very far away. They need to be forced to do the right thing, which in my mind includes being absolutely compelled by all force of the law to open up their App Store to all.

FSF takes on Apple's App Store over GPL

Well said - I'm very tempted to get an iPhone, but the idea of supporting a closed model for phones and ultimately computers and 'content' (i.e. a closed Internet mediated mostly by 'apps' that go through an app store) still puts me off. And Android deserves some support as the closest rival to iPhone/iOS, and seems quite usable overall.
