If performances are going to drop with this thing, I'm gonna switch to xfce as soon as I can, because I don't give a s... about fancy effects or semantic-something, etc. I just want a light system that can stay out of my way as much as it can, doesn't uselessly eats reasources and just works without the need for long sessions of settings tuning.

And, by the way, I hope the colors of gnome-shell(that panel at the top in particular) can be changed, because that's too dark. I prefer the current gray of the panel(not esthetically, but it seems more relaxing for the eyes).
