He doesn't make that claim however. You just need to file bug reports for distro specific issues and stop equating them as Linux desktop issues in general.

Whatever lack of standard doesn't prevent distro package maintainers from fixing obvious bugs and making the file associations work.

You suggest I file bugs against *all* the programs I use. No thanks. I still believe this is a general Linux desktop problem, even if some distros do put work to make the default associations sane. File associations is something an end-user should be able to manage in a clean, easy and universal way.
