The Slackware 13.1
release is out. "Slackware 13.1 brings many updates and
enhancements, among which you'll find two of the most advanced desktop
environments available today: Xfce 4.6.1, a fast and lightweight but
visually appealing and easy to use desktop environment, and KDE 4.4.3, a
recent stable release of the new 4.4.x series of the award-winning KDE
desktop environment."

Kernel 2.6.33 and KDE SC 4.4.3, those are not really old. Kubuntu has older software.
Is the new Slackware still Slackware?

If you mean the Slackware that is known for solid stability as well as being fast, then YES! I've been a Slacker since 97' and have stayed with it to this date. Installation and configuration is still the same with a much improved KDE-4.4 desktop environment along with others to choose from.
Enjoy!

Still running Slack 12.2 with KDE 3.5.10 here, since KDE 4 hasn't been all that stable and complete yet.

Are you serious? Slackware has always shipped the latest stable versions of software unless there was/is a compelling reason not to.
