The Koha "Harley" release

"hackerb9," LibLime has announced
the "Harley" release of the Koha library management system.
"This release includes all functionality in Koha as of October 2009,
plus many new features not yet available. Harley is compatible with both
3.0x and upcoming 3.2 versions. The code for the individual new features
included in this version has also been made available for download from the
GIT repository." This release is an important step toward the
resolution of the disagreement between LibLime and the Koha development
community we reported on last
week.

Speaking as release manager for Koha 3.2, I agree that this is a positive step, and I hope that it will be a basis for PTFS to ultimately contribute LEK to mainstream Koha and thereby resolve the fork. I also hope that the positive response to Harley will inspire PTFS to resume communication on the issues of the Koha trademarks and website.
However, the PTFS press release does have a slightly misleading title, since it could be read to imply that Harley is the current release in the stable series of Koha 3.0.x. Not so; it is a collection of tested bugfixes and features that PTFS is submitting for inclusion in the forthcoming Koha 3.2 and the following Koha 3.4. Although the text of the press release makes that reasonably clear, the choice of title and marketing wording is not ideal.
