I was thinking (for me, not for our editor) of syncing the mail onto an AFS server which I can get to from all my clients. Then sync times should generally be short. I can even cron it subject to having a valid token. I have 500GB quota on the AFS server, and I can send an email to get more. I don't have that much email (yet).
