Amarok 2.3.0 is out

[Amarok] Version 2.3.0 of the Amarok music player has been released. "Areas such as podcast support and saved playlists have seen huge improvements, as has the support for USB mass storage devices (including generic MP3 players). With large parts of Amarok 2 becoming quite mature, it was also time to start looking forward again. Therefore, this release also contains a number of new features of a slightly more experimental nature. These include a new main toolbar and a rewritten and much simpler file browser."

I am still waiting for a stand-alone build to appear on windows, without having to jump through the loops of installing KDE libs through the KDE for windows installer first.

As soon as someone makes it... It's probably not even hard, but the KDE-on-
win team has just a few developers and none of the Amarok dev's has a
windows box...

This release comes with the mandatory Oracle DB ;-) ? No thanks. I am
waiting still that the developers toss the mandatory MySQL backend
introduced in 2.0. Unless one has terabytes of songs sqlite should be
good enough.

You'll be waiting a long time, then.

What difference does it make to you whether they use SQLite or *embedded* MySQL? The functionality is identical from the user's point of view. (There is no need to set up a MySQL server for embedded databases, as used by Amarok by default. They are stored as regular files under $HOME/.kde/share/apps/amarok/, just like the old SQLite databases.)

Terrabytes is definately wrong - 3-4 gig should do. The performance
difference with over 3.000 songs between sql lite and mysql was for me very
noticable.

Which of the two databases performed better on your system?
