Three stable kernels released (2.6.32.4, 2.6.31.12, and 2.6.27.44)
The -stable team has announced three new stable kernels: 2.6.32.4, 2.6.31.12 , and 2.6.27.44. There are less than ten patches
each for .31 and .27, but the .32 release has 52 patches, all over the
tree. There seem to be security issues fixed in each, however, so users
are strongly encouraged to upgrade—as usual. Barring "something
really odd
", this will be the last 2.6.31 stable release, but Greg Kroah-Hartman
did "pre-announce" his plan for 2.6.32 to
be maintained for a longer term (a la 2.6.27)—a more
"official" announcement is coming Tuesday.
Update: The announcement came a day early and, among other things, notes that 2.6.27 is becoming less viable though he plans to keep maintaining it for another 6-8 months. 2.6.32 is slated for 2-3 years of updates.
