The current development kernel remains 2.6.32-rc8. As of this
writing, just over 200 changes have been merged since 2.6.32-rc8, including
some significant feature enhancements to the FS-Cache and slow work
subsystems. Linus has not told the world whether he thinks that's enough
change to justify an -rc9 release or not; stay tuned.

Call me easily amused, but I think it is rather funny that every three months right after a new LWN is out Linus releases a new kernel ;)
Is there something going on I don't know about? Or is it just coincidence?

A guess/hypothesis is that Linus' workflow is time-of-week--syncronized, and it happens that thursdag evening is the time to release kernels in that workflow.

I looked up dates for all the 2.6.x releases (based on dates on
ftp.kernel.org so might not be perfect):
Mon: 4
Tue: 3
Wed: 9
Thu: 7
Fri: 4
Sat: 1
Sun: 5
Seems to be a slight skew towards the middle of the week, but I doubt it's
statistically significant.

It would be interesting to see this statistics for kernels >2.6.10.
For the early 2.6.x the releases were _very_ frequent so their absent pattern may bias the statistics.

It would be fun to know, when exactly our esteemed editor's statement went on-line. That way we could have more of an indication, whether Linus was holding back the kernel release just to miss this weekly edition of LWN. ;-) But then, maybe it's just a matter of time-zones.
