If you would have done a fresh install (like I did) you would have noticed that the network actually is disabled after installation. Sigh.

What medium did you install from? The DVD? I believe not enabling network interfaces by default is the intended behaviour for this type of installation.

I did indeed install from the DVD. I just wanted to point out that corbet was wrong by claiming it had been fixed (he explicitely mentioned not having to burn DVDs, and sees it as a bug).
