I would like to give KDE 4 another go, but my biggest grief is the KDE 4 launcher. If I could only set up a KDE 3.5 style simple launcher for KDE 4.3.

After a brief search I have found nothing. If others know, please share!!

"I would like to give KDE 4 another go"

I assume you mean the KDE Plasma Desktop; you can use the rest of KDE 4, such as the applications, without requiring the workspace. In any case, it would be great if you could also use the workspace comfortably, so:

If by "launcher" you mean the menu in the panel, right click on the K icon and select "Switch to classic menu".

If by "launcher" you mean the "Run Command" dialog, you can disable all the plugins you don't like by clicking on the configure icon in the top left (usually a picture of a little 'wrench') and unselecting all the ones you don't care about. If you just keep "Applications", "Services", "Web Shortcuts" and "Calculator" you have the exact equivalent of KDE 3's run command.

So there you go, enjoy the KDE Plasma Desktop :)

Seriously, isn't it faster and less cumbersome just to say 'plasma'?

It's also less cumbersome to say "Aaron" instead of "Aaron Joseph Seigo from Canada" when referring to me. But if there are two Aarons in the room it can get a little confusing to just say "Aaron". So we use cues like eye contact or using last names or initials ("aaron s.").

There's Plasma Desktop and Plasma Netbook right now, and Plasma Mobile has started development. So ... Plasma is a little ambiguous already.

That said, if it's the only one in the room, so to speak, ("Hey, dude, what's that on your desktop?") then "plasma" might work just fine.

Of course, in more formal situations, we often use full names for people. If I'm introducing you as a speaker at a conference, for instance, I'll probably use your full name. So in more formal situations "KDE Plasma Desktop" will often get used.

It really depends on the context ... and importantly it's never just "KDE" now. :)

thx, yes the classic launcher within the Plasma Desktop is much less busy.

Next the default Plasma transparency and blue on blue is out of control. And not really good for fast review.

Right now I am sticking KDE applications within LXDE.
