"Courgette" is "squash" in French. It's the "squash" you eat but plays on the other meaning of "squeeze" or "compress". Kind of amusing...

Yeah, it's neat. Us English use Courgette for the same vegetable that Americans call Zucchini. I've no idea whether the French actually use it.

Just to be pedantic -- « courgette » is courgette (zucchini on the other side of the pond). Squash is « courge ».
