Polish Linux companies have given notice to SCO Group

Two Polish Linux based companies: CYBER Service and IT ZONE have given notice to SCO Group to desist from unfair competitive practices after an interview with Greg Boguchwalski from SCO Group was published in the Polish edition of Computerworld magazine. CEOs of both companies, Cezar Cichocki and Sergiusz Pawlowicz have warned the SCO Group that it will be sued in case of further unfair competitive practices. (Thanks to Cezar Cichocki)

This is a good trend. SCO hopes to spread FUD until the lawsuit two years from now, but the lawsuits against them are making it more difficult.

LinuxTAG won the first round and got 50.000 EU ($60,000 US) in lawyer fees out of SCO since SCO didn't bother to show up. That was just a preliminary hearing, so the actual amount may be far larger.

When the lawsuit first started, the prevailing meme was that no one goes against IBM and wins. Perhaps in two years, people will think that no one goes against the Linux community and wins.

That's nasty ... :-)

If SCO break the injunction, then it is assumed that THEY are acting illegally, unless AND UNTIL they prove linux is illegal ...

Nice!

Cheers,
Wol

How long a US hero...? What you need to understand about the U.S. is that the real power is in their corporations. Democracy there has been illusory ever since 1886, when corporations were given "personhood" by judiciary maneuvering. Consequently SCO can lie, bluster, bully, and threaten, and get away with it legally, in their own country, where their Constitution protects them.

Linus Torvalds, meanwhile, rightfully saw through the whole affair as a piece of characteristic United States silliness.

Wonderful to see that other people understand the problem with corporations here in the U.S. The situation is very unhealthy for the people here who actually do the work. I wish I had some idea how to reverse the trend, but I don't. As a nation and culture, we could very well be doomed because of corporate greed.
