Parent article: Breakfast in Portland
I'm surprised you haven't seen these before, Jon; they are a local specialty, and I have to assume you've been to Portland many times before. My first time in Portland I'm pretty sure it was less than six hours before I was having those piping hot off the griddle (at around midnight.) If I were you I might well be tempted to spend the rest of the weekend inquiring with previous hosts to ask why they did not show you the same courtesy my host did ;)

My hosts focused on the beer, I guess - and that was just fine with me...

The two are not exclusive! I believe my first visit to Portland went something like: get off plane, beerfest, dinner (at a brewery), maple-bacon doughnut, more beer, sleep. But the important thing is that now you know.
FWIW, 'Voodoo Doughnut' (as seen on the label) is the name of the store; it is in downtown somewhere. Make sure to visit in person; it is a very Portland kind of place.

Last time I was in Portland, my kids wanted to hit Voodoo. At about 10:30 at night, the line was out the door and around the corner...

Dang. I grew up in Oregon and I don't think I've ever seen one of these!
