Developers have expressed enough interest so far that the
distribution called "Boots, a Fedora Remix" is now very likely
to be built. It is NOT intended to be the basis of Foresight
now or in the future; it is instead a parallel track intended to
be useful to Foresight and also on its own. Instead of being an
entirely independent project, I have formally proposed that it be
*organizationally* a sub-project of Foresight.
There are opportunities for code sharing, at least in Anaconda and
probably also in mirrorball, since mirrorball can be useful for
updating from-source builds as well as binary imports. There are
other reasons to cooperate as well, which I have documented in
my proposal for the Foresight Council.
My proposal is substantially complete and is publicly available at
http://wiki.foresightlinux.org/display/~johnsonm/Boots+Pr...
It is on the agenda for the next Foresight Council meeting. I
welcome further questions here on foresight-devel and will do my
best to answer them. I will update the proposal with further
clarifications as needed.
I have copied lwn@lwn.net to help resolve the confusion I
unintentionally created by my earlier thought exercise that (in
retrospect) I wish that I had labeled as such. In the spirit of
better communication, I wish to make clear that until and unless
this proposal is approved by the Foresight Council, it is merely
the proposal of a single Foresight developer, reviewed by other
interested Foresight developers, but is not official policy of
Foresight or anyone else.
