MySQL AB Secures $19.5 Million Investment Round

MySQL AB has announced the completion of a $19.5 million Series B round of financing led by Benchmark Capital, and that Kevin Harvey, general partner of Benchmark Capital, will join MySQL AB's board of directors.

How far have we come?

In the eighties Eben Moglen helped Stallman write the GNU GPL. Back then it was part of a one-man project to build a completely Free OS, now we have that OS.

Along the way, the people who wrote Free Software constantly heard people on the side lines saying "it's not commercially viable", but just look at this story.

Free Softwares teenage years were tough but at 19 it's looking stronger than ever. The proprietary world is right to be scared.
