I wanted to invite you to the USENIX Technical Conference
http://www.usenix.org/usenix03 in San Antonio at the Marriott
Rivercenter - June 9-14.

WHY COME?
First Public SCO/Linux Debate
Thursday, June 12 from 4-5:30
The USENIX Technical Conference provides the first public forum for
the debate on infringement claims by SCO against Linux. Led by Chris
DiBona, former Slashdot editor, Damage Studios founder and Open
Source spokesperson, the discussion will focus on the intellectual
property issues at the heart of the SCO vs. IBM case and its
implications for Linux kernel developers and distributors. DiBona was
recently nominated by Linus Torvalds to represent the Open Source
community on a proposed committee that would examine the Linux kernel
for proprietary code.

Other conference highlights:
Thursday, June 12 at 8:45-10:30 a.m.
The Keynote address will be given by Neal Stephenson, the author of
several novels including Snow Crash, The Diamond Age, Cryptonomicon,
and the upcoming Quicksilver.

Friday, June 13
Modeling the Internet
Harry DeLano and Peter H. Salus, Matrix NetSystems

It's a bird! It's a plane! Look! Up in the sky . . .
If no one could agree on Superman, no wonder we aren't quite certain
what the Internet looks like when it goes home to Smallville and
takes off its Clark Kent suit. Thirty years ago, when the ARPAnet had
well under 50 hosts, the diagram was easy; 20 years ago, when the
number was 400, it could still be mastered. But today there are well
over 200 million hosts.

Several different approaches are currently being pursued to represent
the stucture and population of the Internet, and much of the data is
muddled and inconsistent. Thus, part of the challenge is to gather it
into a coherent representation of what's out there.

The SCO/Linux discussion is among the many highlights of the six day,
multiple-track USENIX Annual Technical Conference which attracts the
most respected computing experts to share their research on topics
including Open Source software, security, wireless computing and
nanotechnology.
