Boies' Take (Forbes)

Forbes talks with David Boies - SCO's lawyer. "Somehow, everyone thinks SCO is in it for the money and out to thwart Linux. In Boies' eyes, it's hard to see how anyone could jump to that conclusion. The $1 billion in damages and future royalties SCO is seeking won't put a mere dent in the Linux movement: 'That's a cost that gets lost in the rounding,' says Boies, adding, 'The cost efficiency of Linux won't rise or fall.'"

Pretty funny stuff. Boies does not think asking someone for $1 billion should be construed as "being in it for the money"? (And as for thwarting Linux, I guess those 1500 letters were actually intended for some other purpose?)

It's hard to say which is sleazier: SCO or a lawyer who claims that $1 billion is a rounding
error.

You'd think that Boies believes that in Linus' executive office in the penthouse of the 200 story Linux Tower, Linus can order his CFO to throw SCO a $1 Billion dollar bone. At least that's what it sounds like. Boies seems to be very detached from reality. Not even IBM can shrug off $1 Bil.

According to current SCO results the $1B equals SCO's license revenues for only 30 years, that sure gets lost in the rounding when a lawyer does the calculations ;-)

Pretty smooth talking lawyer. He's working on contingency, so he has a very big interest in winning this case. Hope he loses big time.

His heyday is probably over considering that Al Gore isn't our president.

Ob lawyer joke:
Q: What's the difference between a rooster and a lawyer?
A: A rooster clucks defiance...

Why everybody seems to hate SCO...

We can just compare SCO's behaviour with that from Microsoft. We all know that MS has its darker sides, but Microsoft at least tries to provide some value to its customers. SCO's techniques can be described as offensive, intimidating and extortionist. They recently lowered the amount of value they provide to their customers to the contractual minimum.
