In case anyone is interested, Slackware has a tool availible, similar to apt-get, to apply upgrades, called swaret. You can get it at freshmeat. However, I'm working with the developer of swaret to add {gasp} library dependency to it. To get the dependency fork (it works!!), go to the Announcement Section.
