Fedora 11: Raise thy Mighty... Finger? (MadRhetoric)

Jack Aboutboul has interviewed Bastien Nocera. "Authentication is an aspect of computing which many take for granted. What's all the fuss? you think. Username, password and that's that. In the following Q&A session with Bastien Nocera, long time Fedora Contributor and Desktop Renaissance Man, we discover that when it comes to authentication, there is more than meets the finger!"

biometrics are the worst idea ever. why encourage a stupid criminal to cut off your finger?

seriously, you can't change or revoke your fingerprints.

I will never buy a laptop with a fingerprint reader.

Watch out. I thought I would never buy a machine with Treacherous
Computing, but I have no choice: it's in all high-end motherboards now.
Thankfully the BIOS still gives you the option to turn it off, but there's
nothing stopping them from removing that option later on.

Are there any projects out there that allow you to use a fingerprint reader for identification rather than authentication?

While there's not much gain in using it for that, if you have one built in and don't want to use it for authentication, you can still make it of some use.

Thanks,

James
