"One of the biggest advantages of free software is that it is usually written with the needs of its users in mind. Proprietary software, instead, has more of a tendency to reflect the interests of its owners."

Is this true? Free Software is great, but we also heard that free software reflects the itch of the authors, rather than some other users?

Free software authors write software to use it, just like the other users of that software would -- while proprietary companies create software to sell it. Note the distinction.

My thought exactly. Free Software motto seems to me to be more like "if you want something done, do it yourself".
