I was slightly suprised that nextenta is apparently using alien successfully on solaris packages, since alien's support for that is IMNSHO not very good.

But not as suprised as I was at what I found in the changelog...

alien (8.73.4) elatte; urgency=low

  * fix for sunwxvmr package

[...]

alien (8.65) elatte; urgency=low

  * SVR4 class conversion improvements

?! That's my email address on a changelog I didn't write. And packaging as root?

Even worse is that the official 8.65 release that I made was completely different from theirs and things have diverged since but with much version number overlap.

I hope we can get this straightened out, both in the areas of Nextanta apparently needing a cluebat WRT changelogs, forking, and version numbers; and of course, merging any relevant changes into alien.
