Intel Adopts an Identity in Software (NY Times)

The New York Times (registration required) highlights Intel's increased interest in software, and Linux-based software in particular. "With animated icons and other quirky bits and pieces, Moblin looks like a fresh take on the operating system. Some companies hope it will give Microsoft a strong challenge in the market for the small, cheap laptops commonly known as netbooks. A polished second version of the software, which is in trials, should start appearing on a variety of netbooks this summer."

Interesting times ahead. Apparently a moblin smartphone isn't for next year, but I'd really like to buy such a toy. The whole "Gnome Mobile" stack is so neat, I'd like to see it take off.

Isn't this actually targeting Google's Android, which is also moving beyond the smart phone?

To read NY Timers articles no longer requires registration. This was apparently too high a bar to capture readers. I would know, I was one of those people who wouldn't visit their site because I didn't want to register, primarily because I would get yet another login/password I would soon forget.

I just got the login form then, although copying the original URL to another browser goes straight to the article. nytimes.com has been in an undeclared war with BugMeNot for several months now, deleting accounts soon after they're added.

I find having Cookie safe only save NYT cookies for the session works nicely
enough.
