Royal College of General Practitioners chooses Trustix Linux solutions
to help keep GPs informed

London, UK – 22nd May 2003 – The Royal College of General Practitioners
(RCGP) has chosen Trustix and IBM to supply a Linux based e-mail server
solution to support the delivery of bulk e-mail to over 6000 GP’s across
the United Kingdom.

The solution, supplied by Cambridge-based reseller ee-scape, will also
allow the RCGP to provide new services in the future, including the web
enabling of some of the College’s Quality initiatives.

The RCGP was already evaluating another Linux-based solution, which,
although it was an excellent out of the box solution, even when compared
to the existing proprietary solution, could not be scaled up to meet
RCGP’s needs.

Tony Betts, IT Manager at the Royal College of General Practitioners
stated: “We needed a robust, scaleable and configurable solution to
enable some database applications to improve communications out to our
members. After testing we decided the Trustix solution met our current
needs and future plans based on known requirements and the potential
move of more services to open systems.”

Ee-scape suggested a solution based on Trustix web and e-mail servers
running on an IBM xSeries server. The RCGP tested two Linux-based
solutions for four weeks before it decided on the Trustix solution.

The main reasons for selecting the Trustix solution were the ability for
the Trustix mail and web server applications to run without causing
problems to other applications that had to be run on the same hardware
and the excellent upgrade path offered by the IBM xSeries server platform.

Superior performance was also offered by the Trustix solution, with the
fortnightly e-mail delivery taking less than two hours rather than the
three days required by the proprietary solution.

"The pace of change within the medical profession has to be matched by
the infrastructure of the royal colleges,” commented James Dean UK Sales
Director of Trustix. “We are delighted that the Royal College of General
Practitioners has chosen a Trustix solution as the basis for its
web-enabled communication with its members.”
