For reference: on my vmware ESX 3.5 installation Linux VMs have between 5
and 25 % of their allotted memory marked as shared. The factor is higher
for idle machines than for busy ones -- as expected.
I've seen 35 % for Windows VMs, as these tend to more aggressively zero
out unused pages. These are of course trivially shareable.
